Layering a Structured Jacket

My heart belongs to structured jackets. It’s the piece I love the most for work outfits or casual looks. A structured jacket is always in style and a key closet staple to build upon to create an adorable layered outfit.

If you need to look put together: grab a structured jacket. Build the rest of the outfit around it; but the jacket itself is where you should begin.

When I find myself stuck in a rut in my own wardrobe {which happens more than you might expect}, I choose just one piece that I really want to wear. It can be a favorite pair of shoes, a pretty and feminine skirt or… a structured jacket – but I choose just one thing that I’m craving to style. Once I’ve decide on the one thing, I find things that compliment it until I feel good about how everything works together.

With this look: I chose the jacket because it can take you anywhere. It can be styled for the office or for happy hour with your lady friends. I decided to dress it down a bit with my favorite destroyed jeans. I also kept the top under the jacket super simple. I chose a basic grey turtleneck.

But because even a turtleneck and jacket can’t keep me warm, I snagged this darling scarf to layer on top of it all. You know how much I love a good hat so I kept the grey theme going.

Even when I’m doing ‘casual’ I tend to gravitate toward a classic heel. I wanted to break up all of that grey so I went with my favorite nude pumps and played up that neutral tone in my tote.

If you don’t already own a structured jacket that you’re head over heels for, this is a must-have piece for your closet. As you shop for one, don’t settle on quality in exchange for a good bargain because a good one will stand the test of time. This is one of those pieces that’s worth the investment. Save money on the thing you layer with it: the turtleneck, the scarf, the hat. But go for the gold when selecting the jacket because it’s about to become your new best friend.
